Caravan is a jazz standard composed in 1936 by Duke Ellington and Juan Tizol. It is a very popular theme among jazz musicians, both in small groups and in Big Bands. In cinema this theme was part of the films "Alice" (1990) and "Sweet and Lowdown" (1999), both by Woody Allen, "Ocean's Eleven" (2001) and was the main theme of "Whiplash" (2014).
A great number of instrumentalists have already interpreted this theme, among them we can mention Art Tatum, Dizzy Gillespie, Clifford Brown, Thelonious Monk, Art Blakey, Buddy Rich, Jo Jones, Gene Krupa, Wes Montgomery, Dizzy Gillespie, Oscar Peterson, Chet Atkins, Les Paul, Art Pepper, Milt Jackson, Monty Alexander, Wynton Marsalis, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Michel Petrucciani, Chucho Valdés, Brian Setzer and many others.
