This song was composed by Antônio Carlos Jobim in the late 1960s, and since then it has been performed by great singers and instrumentalists in world music: Elis Regina with Toots Thielemans, Frank Sinatra, Oscar Peterson, Paul Desmond, João Gilberto, Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon, Benny Carter, Barney Kessel, Charlie Byrd and many others.

The student will have several opportunities to put into practice many of the things he learned with improvisation, just pay attention to the harmony, there are many chord inversions (a common characteristic of bossa nova) that hide well-known cadences, an example is the passage where | Gm7 | C/Bb | Am7 | appears; if we analyze it carefully we will see that it is a II-V-I cadence where we have an inversion of C7 with the bass in the seventh and Am7 as an inversion of Fmaj7. Bossa nova is a very fertile ground for advanced learning of harmony.
