“Take Five” is a jazz composition written by Paul Desmond and performed by “The Dave Brubeck Quartet” on the 1959 album “Time Out”. This theme has 24 measures divided into 3 parts (ABA). This song’s main characteristic is the 5/4 mixed time signature with accents on the first and fourth beats (3/4 + 2/4). This theme quickly became a standard and became part of the repertoire of many jazz musicians.
This theme has been performed by great names such as George Benson, Tito Puente, Al Jarreau, Carmen McRae, Roberto Menescal, Chet Atkins, Chick Corea, Sadao Watanabe, Lee Ritenour, Brian Blade and many others.
