“Saint James Infirmary” is a traditional blues song whose origins and authorship are not well known, although some recordings have given credit to Joe Primrose (pseudonym of Irving Mills). But the fact is that Louis Armstrong’s 1928 recording made this song quite famous, transforming it into a blues and jazz standard.

This song has brilliant interpretations by Cab Calloway, Roy Eldridge, Jack Teagarden, Wynton Marsalis, Ellis Marsalis, Dr. John, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Eric Clapton, Django Reinhardt, Janis Joplin, Van Morrison, Yo-Yo Ma, Joe Cocker, The White Stripes, Lou Rawls, Hugh Laurie, among others.

This song is part of the “Real Book vol.2” and can be found on page 325.

This backing track is composed of drums, bass and piano. The tempo is 70bpm.
