Progressive Rock Backing Track – Here the improviser has an inspiring backing track to experiment with other sounds and let his creativity flow.

Progressive Rock emerged in England in the late 1960s. To this day it has a legion of followers. The style is characterized by long compositions, complex melodies, use of electronic instruments (Hammond organ, synthesizers, etc.) and common classical music instruments (flute, cello, etc.) combined with common rock instruments (guitar, bass, and drums), use of syncopation, compound and mixed time signatures, alternative scales, etc.

Pink Floyd, Genesis, Rush, Yes, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Dream Theater, Jethro Tull, The Moody Blues, The Nice, Soft Machine and King Crimson are groups that made history with this style.

This backing track is in the key of F major and has the following harmonic structure: II-V, II-V, II-V-I, ending with a dominant chord that prepares the restart of the sequence, in this case the D7 chord that prepares the Gm7 chord.

The improviser can use the major scale, arpeggios, pentatonic scales and work intervals outside the key, mainly on the dominant chords.

This track is composed of drums, bass, electric guitar, 12-string acoustic guitar and pedal steel guitar.
