“Naima” is a jazz ballad composed in 1959 by John Coltrane. The name refers to his first wife Naima Coltrane. This was for a long time Coltrane’s favorite composition, and he recorded it several times in “The Complete Copenhagen Concert” (1961), “Live at the Village Vanguard Again!” (1966), “Afro Blue Impressions” (1977), “The Complete 1961 Village Vanguard Recordings” (1997) and “Blue World” (2019).

This song has become a jazz standard and has been recorded by great jazz instrumentalists, among them we can mention Tom Scott, Cedar Walton, John McLaughlin, Carlos Santana, Maynard Ferguson, Eric Dolphy, Freddie Hubbard, McCoy Tyner, Art Farmer, Pharoah Sanders, Joey DeFrancesco, Victor Wooten, Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker, Roy Hargrove, Jaco Pastorius, Arturo Sandoval, George Benson, Tommy Flanagan, James Carter, Nicola Stilo, Toninho Horta and many others.
