Easy to Love Jazz Backing Track – Here the improviser can apply his knowledge to this beautiful song by Cole Porter.

Composed in 1934, this jazz standard has been performed by renowned artists such as Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald, Doris Day, Frank Sinatra, Harry Connick Jr., Sammy Davis Jr., Bing Crosby, Charlie Parker, Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Stan Kenton, Cannonball Adderley, Harry Connick Jr., Chet Baker, Sonny Stitt, Paul Chambers, Joe Pass and many others.

Here the student will find a simple harmony, but with some points that deserve attention. Right at the beginning we have a Gm7 chord that is outside the harmonic field of C Major. It is interesting to try the triad and tetrad of the chord itself, or even the Gm pentatonic scale and the Dorian mode of the major scale.

We then continue with the II-V-I-IV-III cadence and an F7 chord where the soloist can insert several interesting intervals. The first part follows the cadence II-V-I-VI-II-V-III-VI7, with this last chord preparing the return to part A. The song’s final part has an Fm6 chord where the same tips from the previous paragraph can be applied, there is also a quick passage with the E7 and Ebdim chords to end in a II-V-I. With the exception of the final chorus, there is a turnaround in the last bar with IIm7b5 and V7b9 preparing the restart.

This backing track is composed of drums, bass, piano and guitar. The tempo is 140bpm.
