“Bernie’s Tune” is a jazz theme composed by Bernie Miller, which became very popular in 1952 with the recording by saxophonist Gerry Mulligan featuring trumpeter Chet Baker.
This theme is commonly played in the key of D minor, and its form is AABA with 32 bars. It features several major and minor II-V-I cadences, which will provide greater comfort to more experienced jazz musicians.
This standard has been interpreted by great instrumentalists such as Art Pepper, Sonny Stitt, Charlie Byrd, Herb Ellis, Tal Farlow, Mundell Lowe, Scott Hamilton, Charlie Parker, Joe Pass, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Lee Konitz, and many others.
This jazz standard can be found in the “Real Book vol. 3” on page 24 and in “The New Real Book vol. 1” on page 17.
This backing track consists of drums, bass, and guitar. The tempo is set at 190bpm.
