“A Foggy Day” is a composition by George Gershwin with lyrics by his older brother Ira Gershwin. It was released in 1937 along with the film “A Damsel in Distress,” starring Fred Astaire, Joan Fontaine, George Burns, and Gracie Allen. Originally, the song was titled “A Foggy Day (In London Town)” referring to the fogs caused by pollution that were common in London at the time.

This song is considered a jazz standard and has been performed by great artists such as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Charles Mingus, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Red Garland, Erroll Garner, Benny Carter, George Benson, Sarah Vaughan, Wynton Marsalis, Tony Bennett, Joe Pass, Grant Green, Ahmad Jamal, Oscar Peterson, Lester Young, Chet Baker, among others.
