This song was composed by Victor Young in 1944 for a film production. It is one of the most popular jazz standards. It has been recorded by Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Bud Powell, Stan Kenton, Joe Pass, Bill Evans, Art Blakey, Dexter Gordon and many others.
This piece is aimed at advanced jazz students, as it presents a very complex harmony with numerous modulations. There are several II-V-I major and minor cadences, there are altered chords, etc. The melodic minor scale, diminished dominant scale, arpeggios with tensions and many other tools can be applied during improvisation.
