Once I Loved (Amor em Paz) Bossa Nova Backing Track – A beautiful and very successful bossa nova for you to apply your knowledge.

“Once I Loved”, in Portuguese “Amor em Paz”, is a bossa nova composed in 1960 by Antônio Carlos Jobim and with lyrics by Vinícius de Moraes. It is also called “Love in Peace” which is the English translation of the original title. The first to record this magnificent piece was the guitarist and singer João Gilberto in 1961. However, it was in 1967 with Frank Sinatra’s recording that this song became one of Tom Jobim’s best known.

The list of artists who recorded this song is quite extensive, with names such as Cannonball Adderley, Gene Ammons, Chet Baker, Charlie Byrd, Chick Corea, Gary Burton, Gal Costa, Eumir Deodato, Herb Ellis, Clare Fischer, Jacob Fischer, Ella Fitzgerald, Joe Pass, Astrud Gilberto, Eddie Gómez, Stéphane Grappelli, Baden Powell, Vince Guaraldi, Joe Henderson, Jon Hendricks, Shirley Horn, Toninho Horta, Milt Jackson, Elvin Jones, Ivan Lins, Yo-Yo Ma, Herbie Mann, Pat Martino, Ronnie Mathews, Ray Drummond, Kenny Washington, Wes Montgomery, Jaques Morelenbaum, Frank Morgan, Gerry Mulligan, Jane Duboc, Nara Leão, Os Cariocas, Duke Pearson, Bill Perkins, Dianne Reeves, Sylvia Telles, Jim Tomlinson, McCoy Tyner, Cedar Walton and many others.

This standard can be found in the “Real Book vol.1” on page 329, in “The New Real Book vol. 1” on page 250 and in the “Songbook Bossa Nova Almir Chediak vol.5” on page 34. It was on the latter that we based ourselves to create this backing track, since it is by an author with great authority on bossa nova harmony.

This backing track is composed of drums, bass and guitar. The tempo is 140bpm.
